Life is Getting Wild…

How did I get into Wildlife Photography?

I have loved taking pictures for as long as I can remember and I have loved being outside for my whole life. When I was a teenager and had access to a camera, most of the SD card was filled with selfies, but you did find occasional pictures of flowers or candid moments. It wasn’t until 2019 that I bought my first DSLR camera and took a month long trip to South Africa.

I found a course on wildlife photography through Africa Media. It was there that I learned how to use my camera by taking pictures of wildlife, whether that be small animals, big animals, plants, or landscape, we did it all! Learning to use a camera and edit my photos through Africa Media was such an incredible experience. I hope to go back one day now that I’ve had much more practice.

After that, wildlife photography became an interesting hobby that I picked up every once in a while. I would bring my camera out on a walk, or a hike, or anywhere really and see what I could find. Everything in nature seemed to capture my attention, which led me to capture it through my camera. Figuring out the perfect angle and lighting was just part of the fun!

It wasn’t until last month, when I was on a walk and talking with God. I was asking Him if I should do this food photography course that my friend was telling me about. I enjoy baking and taking pictures, so it made sense to me. As I was walking though I see a bunch of vulture type birds hanging out, then later a crane was just hanging out close to the sidewalk that I was on! (pictured below)

It was then that God reminded me how much I love wildlife photography. The rest of that walk, He gave me download after download of what I should do with it. He showed me places in my life where I was already fascinated by nature. I have pictures from South Africa on my walls, I take pictures on every vacation I go on, I’m constantly awed by wildlife everywhere I go and many times if I don’t have my camera with me, I regretted it.

I think that wildlife is so beautiful and can be captured so beautifully! I hope my excitement for wildlife is contagious and that you get the sense of awe that I get through nature however you interact with me or my photos. I would love to hear your favorite parts about nature or what you find fascinating about the world we live in!
